The Graveyard Book

Gaiman, N., & McKean, D. (2008). The Graveyard Book. New York: HarperCollins Pub.

This book had me from the very beginning, the whole family dies on the first page of the first chapter. Wow, who does that?!! But wait, the toddler somehow gets away from the hired killer. He goes into the abandoned graveyard and becomes part of their community as Nobody Owens. The ghosts protect and provide for him with the help of the caretaker, Syrus. As Bod gets older he wants to naturally go out on his own and find his own way of doing things. However, he learns of the fate his family endured and that he is still in grave danger, no pun intended. As the story unfolds Bod must turn from a boy to a man and find his own way.
